DEAR FAMILIES,

It's been a busy start to the school year, but we welcome all our returning and new students! All our students are getting back into their daily school routines. They are learning the responsibilities of logging in at the scheduled time, being prepared, and staying focused during virtual learning. We continue to work on beginning of the year expectations but find time to build relationships with our students through individual check-ins, fun events, and daily virtual interactions. Check out the 20% off of Land's End uniforms if you need any new items. We hope that you all find time to relax during the three day weekend! Sincerely yours, IGDVS

PARENT TEACHER COMMUNICATION

We value our partnership with our families, and we know that communication is key to a successful school year. Here are some gentle reminders about parent-teacher communication: Kindergarten-6th Grade:

  • Please contact the core teacher directly if there is a question or concern with any of the classes.

  • Please allow the core teacher at least 24 hours to respond to your email. Our teachers are teaching and/or planning throughout the day so they may not be able to respond to your emails until after school hours.

  • If there is an urgent message that needs to be communicated to the school and you have not heard back from the core teacher, you can email dvgs@drba.org or call the school at (707) 468-3847.

7th-12th Grade:

  • Students are advised to have direct communications with their teachers about their learning. If parent intervention is necessary, please email dvgs@drba.org for core teacher or subject teacher contact information.

VIRTUE OF THE MONTH: FILIAL PIETY

父母呼,應勿緩 父母命,行勿懶 When your mother or father is calling, Do not be slow to respond. When your parents tell you to do something, Do not be lazy or sulky. (From Standards for Students) What Acts of Filial Piety Did You Do This Summer?

"I contributed to being filial by doing chores in my household such as washing dishes, sweeping and cooking meals." - Anonymous

"Listen to mommy and daddy when they ask me to do something the first time. I help mop the floor." - Bayelle

"I sweep the floor at home." - Iris

"Make coffee for my mom and take out the trash for my dad." - Lumi

"Help mom and dad clean the whole house." - Lucy

"I do my chores, I help my mom clean her room, and I make hot chocolate for my baby brother." - Zacari

"When my parents ask me to clean my room, I do it." - Yasoda

"When my mom asks me to get off the treadmill, I let her have a turn." - Sahara

"When my mom asks me to take care of my little brother, I take care of my brother." - Sherry

"I wash the breakfast dishes every day." - Celeste

"When my mom tells me to do something, I do it all the time. For example, when she asks me to take the dog out to the yard, I do it. Below is what I need to do to be filial to my parents:

What I need to work on the most is: to show a happy and pleasant face to parents. I do not reply to them with a kind facial expression and a warm gentle voice when I am upset. I usually get upset easily when they say something I do not like. I need to work on this as Confucius said, it is hard but important to always let parents feel pleasure to see or hear the child. I could be filial from my facial expression and voice as it is very hard to do." - Kelsey

Thank you to everyone!
